Wines tried from Yenzi Economart

These are my rough notes I occasionally make to help me remember which wines I have enjoyed. Some information, photos, cost and descriptions compiled from other web pages (thaks). Work in progress still.

Malesan Bordeaux 2006 CFA xxxxx

Disappointing red color with aged brown hue. Hints of fruit, but somewhat musty. Tannic taste, overwhelming any wood or fruit. Limited front palate, overpowering tannic middle palate and long finish. Well past its prime, drinkable though but not one I would want to buy again. Tried this again after it had breathed a while and found it far more palatable. More balanced with better mouth feel.

Chateau La Bouade Sauternes 2000

CFA 10460

This wine has citrus and honey aromas with a viscous mouth feel, not overly sweet. Overall the style is less sweet and more subtle than most Australian dessert wines.

Chateau La Bouade Sauternes

Les Sources Chateau De La Riviere Fronsac

CFA 8170

Dark red color, an exotic oaky fruit nose. Thick middle palate, with wood still fruit and tannin evident and balanced. Nice mouth feel. This is one of the best I’ve had from Economart and will buy again. US$17 on the net.

Chateau Mendoce Cotes De Bourg 2004

CFA 8010

Burgundy - Chateau de Mendoce Cotes de Bourg “France” £5.21
From the north of the Gironde, a full bodied wine known as “the Burgundy of Bordeaux”.

Grand Bateau Rouge 2006, Château Beychevelle

CFA 4695

Best of the cheaper wines at the Economant, nothing special but a non objectionable drinkable claret. £9.95 in UK

2006 Grand Bateau Rouge, Bordeaux

2007 - Gigondas - Domaine Le Péage

CFA 9000+

Bright plumy wine with loads of fruit. Light on tannin and wood. Early on was one of the best I’ve had from the Economart, but still not something I’d actively seek out.

Domaine Le Péage 2007 - Gigondas wine

Red wine Château Bois Pertuis Bordeaux recolte 2007 CFA 4230

Not much nose and suggestions of inexpensive tastes to come. Slightly thin front palate, quite tannic with limited fruit and wood. Thin mouth feel to start but warmed to it. Quite nice finish with cheese, not a Phil favourite. But okay.  £8.54 on Waitrose web page.

Vin Des Sables Listel Cepages Merlot Cabernet CFA 3400

Old fashioned welcoming unsophisticated claret nose with a hint of too old getting past its best. Brown tinged red color, not particularly inviting and thin looking. Basic quaffing wine, nothing wrong but lacks balance, slightly tanic and astringent middle palate, acceptable finish. Can’t remember the price at Economart, but not silly, EUR 14.90 on Ebay for a bottle of 75 cl

Chateau de respide la carrade. CFA 5980

Château de Respide is a Graves estate that has a long and illustrious history. The red wine is a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and is consistently smooth and elegant displaying succulent ripe black fruit with sufficient tannins and structure to enable it to develop in bottle for up to 5 years.

Chateau Ferrande, Graves 2004 CFA 17900

Enjoyed this at Dora’s. Remember the fruit nose and balanced palate fruit, some wood and soft tannins. Quite expensive for what it is, but eminently drinkable. Best wine I have had in Gabon. Quite fragrant nose with good Cabernet expression. Smooth, open fruited with a little sweetness on attack. Lively but balanced. Drink 2008-2014.

Baron de Lestac

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Bordeaux AOC. Brick red delicate colour, fine bouquet, oak with red berry. Not quite balanced structure; limited fruit, tannic and oaky flavours combine to give a pleasant wine. Nothing special, but would be happy to drink again.

Valpolicella Vigneti Del Sole 2007 Pasqua.

Inviting fruit nose, good interesting red purple color, limited tannin and wood and past it oxidised flavour.

Chateau Hermitage Des Bruges Bordeaux 2007

Dull red color, looks somewhat aged. Half hearted claret nose, hints of fruit and wood. Interesting front palate, unbalanced acidic middle and finish. With food only wine, quite drinkable, but not to attractive for my taste. Can do better.
